Frat Sponsor Serves 25 Years
Larry C. "Satch" Sanders
| The Men of Frater Sodalis are honoring one of their sponsors
this year for his outstanding service of 25 years to the club. Larry C.
Sanders, nicknamed "Satch" by his cohorts in the 70's, pledged Frater
Sodalis in the fall of 1972. While in club, Satch participated in many
activities. In 1973, he had the privilege of playing Intramural
Flag Football with several Frats. This team, shown below, finished
the season as the Intramural Flag Football Champions. As of this
year, Satch has played his 30th season of intramural football. He
also held the office of Historian for two years while he was in club and
has not stopped serving this club since then.
In order to celebrate this great accomplishment, we are conducting a small fundraising campaign involving the alumni and members of Frater Sodalis. The goal of this is to raise approximately $75,000. These funds will be used to purchase the lighting for the new intramural field located across from the campus on the property of Taylor Elementary School. With the gifting of these lights to benefit the intramural program at Abilene Christian the field will be named the “Larry C. Sanders Intramural Field.” Intramural sports have for many years played a vital role in the history of the university and have met a need for literally thousands of students. Bonds and friendship through friendly competition are extremely important to the students of the university. Much less a few bragging rights. With Frater Sodalis approaching 60 years on campus, “Satch” has been involved with the club for a little more than half of that time. As the senior sponsor he is deeply loved, respected, and appreciated. It has not always been easy to function in this role but “Satch” has always risen to the occasion with a great love for the guys and a deep commitment to what club stands for. He has counseled, laughed and cried with and been a true friend to everyone. His home continues to be open to literally hundreds of guys who have enjoyed the hospitality, food and fellowship offered by he and his family through the course of these 25 years as sponsor. If you want to be
involved in this effort to give appropriate honor and thanks to Larry
Sanders for his dedicated service and love for the Men of Frater Sodalis,
